I’m a product owner in the business development team working on consumer finance.
The business to business channel that I work for provides funding for a number of different retailers, so their needs, experiences and market sectors are all very different.
Retail is very dynamic. It moves very quickly, so we have to be flexible and adaptable and have very strong relationships with all our retailers.
I started at Hitachi Capital UK in March 2014. I came in as a project manager focussing on business change. After I’d been doing the role for about 18 months, there was the opportunity to take a position as a product owner on a seconded basis. When the opportunity came up to apply for the role on a full-time basis, I took it and haven’t looked back.
It been a really positive step forward for the company and also for myself personally – it has been fantastic.
Working in business development is fast paced. We’re constantly having to adapt to market conditions and competitor activity, in addition to having to be on our front foot in getting out and speaking to people. That relationship management filters through the entire team – we’re the same internally as we are externally. We get together, focus on solutions and get things done.
