The Credit Risk Team at Hitachi Capital Invoice Finance have recently completed their delivery of the first Risk Training Programme. This year long programme was created with four specific objectives in mind:
One, To create a library of risk training modules. This was in response to many ad hoc requests from HCIF colleagues for risk training.
Two, To improve the overall effectiveness of HCIF’s credit risk management.
Three, To provide the opportunity for 3 colleagues to work through the entire programme across a 12-month period.
Four, Increase the number of internal applications for future Credit Risk roles.
The process consisted of employees applying to be part of the programme, where through a selection process, 3 employees would be trained across 12 months on all aspects of the many roles within the team. The training would be via a series of modules followed by assessment papers delivered by members of Credit Risk.
The successful trainees were Vipul Mehra, Dan Davis and Dal Dulai. Approximately halfway through the year, Susan Toon was also invited onto the programme following her return from maternity leave where she was fast-tracked through the programme.
All 4 successfully passed this programme with flying colours!
Colin Johnson, Head of Credit Risk advised “I am extremely proud of everyone involved in this intensive programme (Trainers and Trainees) for their commitment and dedication across the last 12 months and particularly given the pandemic driven challenges of moving from classroom based work to remote work part way through the year. I’m looking forward to seeing this training come to fruition as and when have new opportunities arise in the Credit Risk Team."
Feedback from the trainees was very positive and we have taken this on board by refining next year’s programme. Some examples of their feedback are below.
Vipul commented “I have now completed the Risk training programme and it has been challenging and rewarding at the same time. This programme has made me more risk aware on daily basis and provided me with the tools and techniques which I now use daily to protect the Business even better than before. I look forward to opportunities within Risk in future to further my career. Thank you to all my colleagues in the Risk team who have spent a significant amount of time training us during this programme. Thank you.”
Susan commented “This has been an extremely informative and valuable programme. The increased knowledge I now have has helped me to feel more comfortable and confident in my role, knowing that I have a greater understanding of the business – this is invaluable to me. The content has been well delivered and the support from the risk team has been above and beyond.
Dal commented “I really enjoyed the opportunity provided. It has allowed me to build further on career development, whilst also providing an opportunity for internal talent to move forward within the company, showing building from within.”
Dan also added “The course has been, insightful, interesting and fun, and much of what I have learnt is helpful day to day.”
Based on the great success of this year’s programme, there will be another programme launched shortly and we encourage anyone in HCIF or HCUK who is passionate about their personal development to apply.
