Social media can be an excellent tool for SME businesses to humanise your organisation, generate interesting conversations, establish connections with likeminded figures in the professional community, and engage your workforce.
Despite all this, it can sometimes prove an effort to keep generating impactful content that engages your followers. Here are some simple steps to help you keep your feeds fresh and stop scrollers in their tracks…
Establish which platforms are right for you
It’s a common mistake to think that the same content can be used across every single social media platform. In short, the perfect Instagram post won’t be ‘just right’ for LinkedIn as well — and vice versa.
Treat each channel as a totally unique platform and try to make the most of its various functions — Instagram Live, LinkedIn stories, and Twitter polls, to name a few.
Focus on interesting and useful content
Try to stay true to your company’s core message, and only upload content that you believe your followers will find genuinely helpful and informative.
If you do happen to post something that doesn’t quite hit the mark, learn from it and perhaps park in future so you can focus on the posts that are engaging your audience.
Humanise your brand
Despite social media platforms allowing us to communicate more effectively, it is often the human emotion element that gets neglected. Try to delve deeper, be relatable and show your audience what your SME organisation is really like, with plenty of soul!
Give virtual tours of the office, introduce team members – and encourage them to post – and show what makes you, you.
Optimise your post frequency
Each platform has its peak times of the day, and week, that generate the most engagement. Research the optimum moments that are specific to your audience, and post accordingly.
Remember, social media is an ever-evolving landscape, so try to keep on top of new developments too – such as IG TV, Twitter fleets and LinkedIn Stories – in order stay relevant and ahead of the curve.
It really is true what they say — ‘a picture is worth a thousand words.’ Eye-catching graphics and images are key for boosting social media engagement and encouraging followers to connect with your brand’s messaging.
Free tools such as Canva are great for the non-designer to get crafty with your own graphics and really make your content land better than a bland message that people will swiftly scroll past.
