There’s no doubt, 2020 has been a year of uncertainty, unease, and change. As the globe navigates the unchartered waters brought on by the pandemic, business professionals have struggled to assert themselves in an ever-changing market. And, at the same time they’ve remained a pillar of strength for their colleagues and clients alike.
But as finance leaders make it their mission not to rest on their laurels — and continue to provide the best service for their customers — it’s important to make sure this isn’t to the detriment of their personal life, and the ability to switch off at the end of the working day. Therefore, here are our top tips for maintaining a healthy balance between your work and home life…
-
Step away from the work phone
We’re all guilty of a quick refresh of work emails when we’re supposed to be zoning out. This can really eat into free time as you spend the majority of it thinking about work.
When you’ve officially clocked off, get into the habit of stepping away from your business devices or even switching them off completely. Instead, try getting stuck into a good book or a creative task, to keep your mind occupied and still feel like you’ve accomplished something — you’ll be amazed how much better you feel!
-
Listen to your body
Mood swings, lack of sleep, low energy, and a weak immune system are all signs of being overworked. If you’re noticing any negative changes in the way you feel, it could be your body’s way of telling you to slow it down. If ignored, this can lead to more serious problems, so take a moment to address unhealthy habits, make small adjustments and allow yourself time to recover.
-
Go on a new adventure
Sadly, a two-week jaunt in Greece is looking a little unlikely in the current climate, but in the age of the ‘staycation’, try taking some time out to recharge — both physically and mentally — in new surroundings.
Spending time in a fresh environment can help you to zone out of office-mode. And, with proper planning, you won’t have to worry about being met with a deluge of tasks on your return.
-
Stay sociable
Make time for social activities with friends and loved ones. With so much of our days taken up with work, it’s vital we spend ‘free time’ with people that make us happy and enjoy the little things.
Each small event will help you to reboot the system as well as boosting the productivity levels for when you’re next at work.
